FEEDBACK
REFLECTION
Experience
This research topic was particularly challenging due to the limited number
of existing studies and academic articles especially that are focusing on
the usability of the voice and visual interfaces among older adults. In
addition, finding and recruiting participants aged 60 and above required
extra time while effort as access to this age group can be difficult. As
this was my first experience conducting a complete research study from start
to finish the process was demanding and overwhelming. However, it was also
highly valuable as it helped me develop a deeper understanding of user
research methodologies, participant recruitment and the real-world
constraints that researchers often face. Overall, the experience
strengthened my problem-solving skills and gave me greater confidence in
managing research projects in the future.
Observation
Through this project, I became more aware of the careless mistakes I have
made such as spelling errors, formatting issues and broken links. While
these mistakes were minor, they affected the overall clarity and
professionalism of the work. This experience helped me realize how important
to pay attention in detail is especially in research, documentation, and
presentation. It also showed me that good ideas can lose impact if they are
not communicated clearly and accurately. As a result, I learned the
importance of slowing down, reviewing my work carefully, and developing
consistent checking habits. Moving forward, I plan to allocate more time for
proofreading and quality checks to ensure that my future projects are more
polished, accurate, and professional.
Findings
The findings of this study show that older adults are actively using
smartphones in their daily lives particularly for communication and
entertainment. All participants used their mobile phones daily and were
familiar with common visual applications such as messaging and media
platforms. While visual interfaces were used by all participants, most had
also begun adopting voice assistants to support specific tasks, such as
making calls and searching for information. These results suggest that when
digital interfaces are designed to be familiar, accessible and easy to use,
older adults are capable and willing to engage with both visual and
voice-based technologies.
